Pommery Grand Cru Royal Vintage 2008
THE EXPRESSION OF AN EXCEPTIONAL YEAR
There is only one word that can describe the year 2008: Unexpected! It was also one of the greatest vintages Champagne has ever produced: after a difficult summer, nature surprised us. The tide turned, the stars aligned, and fall offered us an exceptional harvest. The 2008 millésime may have already conquered aficionados the world over, the Pommery Grand Cru Royal vintage 2008 offers, however, a singular vision of this bountiful year, in the purest style of the Maison. Originating from grands crus only, and with an exceptional ageing potential, slowly brought to maturity in the freshness of our 11 miles of underground galleries, this particular vintage must be tasted at its prime: the precise moment when all the components are in harmony and when maturity, freshness and complexity come together.
“There is only one word that can describe the year 2008: Unexpected!”
The Tasting Notes
ON THE EYE
The color of crystal, a discreet gold with green reflections.
ON THE NOSE
The nose presents the patina of the Pommery vintages: elegance, minerality, freshness. First, intense floral notes of peony and hawthorn. Maturity is expressed in fruity notes of pear and fresh apricot. The Pinot Noir demonstrates its greatness through notes of crushed, fresh strawberries.
ON THE PALATE
Light with great uprightness. Minerality immediately hits the palate, followed by notes of acacia honey and Mirabelle plums. The finish is pleasantly punctuated by sweetness, marked by flavors of blood orange.
Drinking Occasion
Naturally rich and structured, this vintage is best served with white meat, such as a Poulet de Bresse with kaffir lime, or bolder associations, such as pan-fried foie gras and Mirabelles chutney, or a black truffles risotto with truffes noires du Perigord.
